Hanging out with the founders of FOLDER.

Can you tell us your story so far?

Parallelle:  We’re two brothers shaped by a mix of French, Italian, and Dutch roots, all of it, sprinkled by the smooth tones of jazz constantly playing in the house. A few years ago, we joined creative forces, and today we’re grateful to compose and perform our music across the globe.

Mâhfoud: I was born in Aleppo, raised between cultures, and found music as a way to express what words couldn’t. Over time, it became my path. writing, performing, and recently co-founding a label with my friends.

Next steps?

Parallelle:  Right now, our energy is focused on our upcoming album, “The Midnight Groove” releasing October 17th on Folder. We’re crafting a full package to reflect our signature sound that carries our essence, our message, and our groove. We are pretty excited about that.

Mâhfoud: Finishing my second album, playing a few shows under a new live project called Sun in X, and continuing to build a space where music feels honest and alive.

Best spot in Portugal?

Parallelle: Thomas: I live by Estrela Park, which I believe is Lisbon’s best corner. I walk there almost every day. There’s a bench that catches the morning sun and another one get the evening sun, I always sit on the bright side. Julien: We recently spent some time in Arrábida, where we shot a live video and I loved it. The surrounding is magical, beautiful beaches, great hikes.

Mâhfoud: A lonely corner by Praia da Ursa at sunset. But honestly, wandering through Lisbon’s old streets with no plan might be just as good.

What does style mean to you guys?

Parallelle:  Style is everything, it’s how you show up. It’s a statement, a comfort zone, a sense of identity. It’s what lets you feel at ease when performing. It’s a vibe, and sometimes, a silent language.

Mâhfoud: It’s how you carry what you care about. It’s in your choices, not just your clothes.

What motivated you to get started with your business?

Parallelle:  Freedom. The freedom to follow our instincts. The freedom to move beyond a single role. And above all, the freedom to create without compromise.

Mâhfoud: I wanted freedom — to release music without waiting for permission. And to build a small home for sounds that move people.

What's the Band/Music Style/Music Artist that inspires you?

Parallelle: Thomas: Lately I’ve been diving back into old bossa nova. Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66 have been on repeat. Julien: lately, I dig a lot in old school Chicago house and Detroit techno. Frankie Knuckles, Derrick May, Moodyman, Lil Louis.

Mâhfoud: I’m inspired by raw music that comes from untouched places—sounds that feel like they’ve been lived, not polished.

Any guilty pleasures worth mentioning?

Parallelle: Thomas: Strawberries with Whipped-Cream and chocolate sprinkles on top, the guilty pleasure part in the amount of whipped-cream i put on top (almost the whole bottle, oupsy) Julien: I must say that i need to have my croissant and flatwhite everymorning but my guiltiest pleasure is some french fries with mayonnaise, I cannot resist.

Mâhfoud: Ice cream. Every day
